Recently, I helped several people reaching retirement age with their Senior Medicare Product needs (as an independent insurance agent of some major private health insurance companies) that ensured they understood their options and potential benefits.
They also asked me about preparing their last will and testaments, as a Louisiana Civil Law Notary Public as well as a power-of-attorney form. (Now, I joke that the good thing about getting older is that it "beats the alternative!") But, we should all be aware that things happen in our lives that we often can not control and do not expect. So, let's not get caught off guard. Let me ask you, do you have a last will and testament that will ensure that the people you love and want to be taken care of when you are gone will be?
Do you have a life insurance policy for the same reasons? I can help you with that too. I have companies that offer guaranteed issue life insurance policies that will help protect your loved ones. (Do you have to be a billionaire to do this? Heck, no! You can even get simple inexpensive policies that will help take care of things such as funeral and other end of life costs, that can add up and be expensive, in the event of your demise, that will help protect the people you love. Most polices accrue value in addition to paying the face value to your loved one upon your death.) Costs can be a burden on your loved ones at their time of loss and a life policy could help cover some of those costs.
We all think we are invincible. but, we are not.
Let me help you prepare a power of attorney (mandate) that will help someone, who you trust, take care of your affairs and matters for you and on your behalf, should you become incapacitated or unable to do so for yourself. In some cases, if you do not have a power of attorney or mandate, your family might have to hire a lawyer and get a judge to sign an order allowing someone else to handle your affairs for you. I can also put medical power of attorney wording in it or even prepare a separate durable medical power of attorney with proper HIPAA wording in it to help ensure that that person you trust can make sure you are getting the best medical attention and makes needed decisions for you, if you are unable to do so.
Have you ever heard of a "Living Will?" It is an instrument you can sign that directs doctors and hospitals of your intentions regarding end of life procedures should your doctors and professionals determine that there is absolutely no hope of recovery. You can let them know if you want procedures such as feeding tubes withheld.
